stuck in a style rut? part 7 the cherry on top

yes we have come to my favorite part! accessories! jewelry is my favorite part of dressing, because its like adding a whole other personality to my outfit. i know all the fashion magazines say you can change your entire outfit with a few accessories, they say it because its true. i love mixing my harder pieces (like my studded cuff) with a girly dress. i feel like jewelry makes dressing fun and an outfit complete. and you don't have to spend a lot of money, and you can do trends with jewelry.

necklaces
Erickson Beamon necklace
i love big statement pieces that when you wear them you don't have to wear another piece if you don't want to.
layered necklaces. We have some great small necklaces of all different lengths to layer for an awesome look.
i also love little necklaces that you can stack them together to make a unique pile. don't be afraid to mix metals ex: silver and brass or gold. it makes it more eclectic.

bracelets
Pinned Image
for me because my writs are so small i can only wear stretchy bracelets which limit me, though i can't wear so many of them i love them! you can wear one or stack them up. thick or thin, mix metals with leather, friendship bracelets or keep it clean with one. but when i wear one i make sure its a statement but that's just my personal opinion.

rings
need YSL Arty Oval Ring
i love statement rings like the ysl arty ring that make you whole hand look good.

but on the other side i love stacking rings and having multiples on my hand.

earrings
Pinned Image
i love love love earrings. maybe because no matter what they will always fit.  I'm a fan of door knocker earrings i think its because i can feel them move around my ears so i don't lose it.
i love how they brighten your face and add color to your outfit.

12 Earrings So Good, You'll Build Your Whole Outfit Around 'Em
now that i have talked to you guys about jewelry i will break it down and do a separate post for each. like how to layer jewelry, when is less is more appropriate.

stuck in a style rut? part 6 make up your face

Pinned Image
make up the greatest thing known to women. it helps us put our best face forward and its something that we can change every day. in order for us to have a blank and healthy canvas for our color exstavaganza we need a clean canvas. i always wash my face in the morning with aveeno calming clenzer then i use biore ex stringent on top that of with aveeno daily moistiser with spf 30 and your ready to put on your make up. its very important  to always use spf to keep your skin protected from sun damage. even if the sun isn't out it can still bounce off the snow (if you get snow).

its great to have a daily make up routine where you look natural and beautiful but its also a nice foundation for getting crazy with your make up for when you have a party or a girls night out.

i love having something fun and new everyday when i catch my reflection. some times you get bored of your make up and when this happens to me this is what i do to try to freshen things up.

1. match my nails and make up.  the more colors on your nails the more colors you have to choose from.
Pinned Image

2. take inspiration of my outfit, choose a color that's in the clothes or take a the vibe say a 60's vibe go nuts and give yourself a winged eye.
got wings!

3. take inspiration from runway shows or advertisements it doesn't have to be as extreme as the runway shows, you don't want to look like mimi from the drew carey show.
Pinned Image

 4. try new stuff! i know every one says this but its because its true if you like lipstick and don't think it will look good try it! i know lipstick look great on everyone its just about having the confidence to pull it off. take me for example i have never worn lashes (mostly because i wear glasses and my lashes hit my lenses) but as soon i get contacts i'm getting out of my comfort zone and trying them. i might just love them and i'm sure if you try something you'll  be glad you did. right now i'm excited to try the reverse smokey eye shown here by my newest obsession the beauty department.

stuck in a style rut? part 5 style icons

i know that everyone had one. a style role model that is. the person who you look at a magazine and think man if only i could dress like this? and i say why can't you? you don't have to take the whole outfit idea if its not your thing but you can take inspiration from it and make it your own.

so this is what i've been working on

i have taken 5 stylish women who style i love (you can choose more than 5.)

1. florence welsh

2. kourtney kardashian

3. mary kate olsen

4. zooey deschanel

5. audrey hepburn

i took them and wrote down why i loved their style, as well as my favorite outfits they have worn.
i also put a must have article of clothing that reminds me of  their style and that would work with my body shape. this will help your because more times than not all the women that you choose have something in their style that's in common with each other and what you are trying to achieve or put across in your style. this also helps you identify what styles you like and dislike. i hope this gets you thinking about who style you like and why and how to take something and make it your own.
if you have any questions please leave them in the comments.

stuck in a style rut? part 4 take risks

fashion is all about having fun! once its stops being fun it becomes a chore which lets face it puts you in a style rut. don't take it too seriously it should be easy. i know that for me when i just pick stuff out in the morning in a sleepy blur it just goes together and they become some of my favorite outfits.  there is something to be said for when i do plan an outfit and sometimes i love the outfit but i feel like they aren't appropriate for the little town that i live in. on those days i have to say forget it and i take a risk and wear it anyway and i'm always happy i did.
Pinned Image

taking fashion risk takes guts, confidence and it helps your style grow. when i say take risk i don't mean wear some thing that would make you uncomfortable. if it your not used to a style just try it,  it may surprise you and end up loving it . i'm saying if you see a woman with a bright color top and your just a black and white kinda girl take a risk and wear a different color top. if you wear jean all the time try a flirty skirt. it's just to get out of your fashion comfort zone.

Pinned Image

you can also so this with your make up. no i did not forget about make up. i love it because it can change a whole look with the colors that you pick. i love fun eye shadows and bold lips because they are fun and can change your face and outlook.  if you have never worn make up i say take it slow and pick a color that you feel comfortable. when i started wearing lipstick (my first color was red) i wore it every day for a week because at first its weird to see color and then after seeing it for a few days you get use to it.  for those of you that have been wearing lipstick get out of the shades that you normally use ( yes i'm calling you out i know you have shades your comfortable with. i know i do to) but try something new if you wear pink try a plum or a brown and if you like dark colors try some fun like orange, or a candy pink.

Pinned Image
so take a risk and try something new you'll be glad you did!

stuck in a style rut? part 3 fashion rules

every time i go shopping with my mom she looks at a garment and says "oh its good! don't they say its good to have something with rushing?  that's a rule right?" fashion rules like no white after labor day, or you cant wear mismatch patterns are silly. why are we no longer "allowed" to wear a color. I say the only fashion rule you follow is to dress for your body shape. only because when you dress for your body it makes you look fantastic. it shows off the best qualities of your figure.  but what these aren't rules these are just my personal  takes on fashion.

1.when i mix patterns i try to at least have a similar color story so it has some reason behind it. my inspiration is marc jacobs.

2. matching colors. i love matching colors because it gives you a bold look. it freshens up your wardrobe and keeps your style fun.

3. layers i love love love layering, because living in a town where the weather is unpredictable its pretty handy to keep extra clothes on during the cold months.  i love mixing colors with neutrals when i wear this look.

hope you enjoy my takes on fashion and i'm sure i will write another fashion post before this series is over.

stuck in a style rut? part 2 finding your style

There are so many ways to find out what your style is.  Most websites have style quizzes that put you in a category and they are almost always generic like your sporty or girly however most of us have more than one side were not just one thing and style is a way to express yourself but to find out what you like i would check out this step.

2. create a style journal, or a folder.
take a small journal that can fit in your purse (so you have it everywhere you go) and start filling it with pictures from magazines that catch your eye. ( or you can do it on your computer by adding a folder to your desktop)

( this is mine on my desktop, the first one has the hair cut i got a while ago and the bottom one has a make up trend i love.)

This takes time but its worth it because its everything that you love. it helps you when you go shopping because its were you put pictures of clothes that you love, trends, hair colors, cuts, makeup trends that you want to try. so when your feeling bored with you style you can go and try a makeup trend or a new hair style. This also helps your style evolve and help you put together a style profile to help you fill out that wardrobe.

Stuck in a style rut? part 1 take inventory

i know i am and its mostly because i have style ADD. one day i want to be girly and wear dresses the next dressed all in black and the next bohemian chic and those are on the good days. on the bad days i wear jeans and t-shirts that are less than fashionable and leave you feeling less than pretty, and you know your in a style rut when your co workers say "we used to look forward to what you used to wear. we were always trying to guess what is she going to wear next, but now its normal and conservative ." and that's the last thing you want to be.  well this series will help you get back to being that fashionable girl you want to be.

268974_188408094547762_151685241553381_479128_2876569_n_large

1. clean your closet
I know everybody says this but its true. during the year you could have gained weight (that's me) or have lost weight. things don't fit any more and there is no use leaving them in your closet so put them in a bag and give them to charity. you have helped your community and have more room in your closet so you can see the things that actually fit you.

now every fashion magazine says to throw away the things you haven't used in a year but i don't necessarily  agree with this because were not all made out of money who can throw everything out and start over, but i think if it's not your style anymore  then you can decide weather of not you want to keep it. (because if its no longer your style but still fashionable and in good shape you can always try selling it in a consignment store. which means more money for you and less clutter in you closet.)

however if its some thing you forgot about but still love it heres a tip that i use when I'm cleaning out my closet. try to make as many outfits you can with that piece of clothing.( and for those of you saying how can i do this i don't even know what my style is? that's coming up in the next post) but for this just trust your gut. this will help you start defining your style, because only you can decide what you like and what you don't, and its also a great way to maximize your wardrobe.

now take stock and see what you have do you have mostly black shirts, and no color? or do you just have jeans and tons of t-shirts? i would write down a list of what you have and what you don't this will show you what gaps you need or can fill in your wardrobe and this will next take us to part 2 of finding your style.
